The Right to Food (RTF) Debate Tournament was held on the 26th to 27th July, 2019 at Strathmore University. RTF Debate Tournament is an intercollegiate debate which aims to influence the political approach to food security, and target avenues related to policy development and implementation at national and county-level.
The main sponsors were the Kenya National Debate Council in partnership with Route to Food Initiative (an initiative to realize the Human Right to Food in Kenya). The debate had three categories;
- Debate
- Public speaking
- Quizzes.
About ten universities and colleges offering law programmes participated in the three categories. Mount Kenya University, Parklands Law Campus (PLC) emerged the winner and also second runners up during the inaugural quiz challenge.
This was founded by remarkable and competence training on mooting and debating technique led by Shiro Mogeni and Maragret Mounde (the Moot Court co-coordinators) and Shirley Bett, (the Chair of Moot Court).
The following PLC students were listed among the best 10 speakers in the debate.

The following PLC students also took the awards for the best speakers with vast knowledge on human rights out of the best 10 speakers in public speaking.

As a result of the excellent performance by the Mount Kenya University PLC students have qualified and being sponsored for training on debate technique which results into improved negotiation and litigation skills by the Route to Food Initiative.
